| map by virtualtourist.com | Nuremberg was first mentioned in 1050. In 1806 it became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria and flourished as an industrial centre. In the 1930's the city became a symbol of National Socialism and in 1945 the old town centre was heavy damaged by Allied air raids; in the 1950s rebuilt. Today, Nuremberg is with it's 480.000 inhabitants the second largest city of Bavaria and the capital of Frankonia. It attracts every year hundreds of thousands of visitors because of the beautifully restored mediaeval Altstadt (town centre) and the annual Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market). |
