Nuremberg was first mentioned in 1050. In 1806 it became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria and flourished as an industrial centre. In the 1930's the city became a symbol of National Socialism and in 1945 the old town centre was heavy damaged by Allied air raids; in the 1950s rebuilt. Today, Nuremberg is with it's 480.000 inhabitants the second largest city of Bavaria and the capital of Frankonia. It attracts every year hundreds of thousands of visitors because of the beautifully restored mediaeval Altstadt (town centre) and the annual Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market).

Great page about this beautiful city!
Hello Christian, nice page on Nürnberg! I'll be going there again in March, so see if you can do something about the weather, okay? (Enjoyed meeting you in Karlsruhe.)
nice city. pictures looks like the city has old traditions (i don't know why i think so :-)) ) The castle in snow is beautiful
Beautiful architecture... and the snow gives it a charming touch!
Oh yes, the medieval Old Town is picturesque, but the snow adds to the romantic, doesn't it? And a big thanks for mentioning my travelogue, how nice of you! Do you believe I missed a tour of the city hall? Yikes!
In the 70s I lived and worked half a year in Nürnberg, near the old citycentre. Nice pictures and impressions ! Thanks for the memories, even the snow.
Looks like a nice place to visit, even on a cloudy day. Germany is still on my list, but it is getting more interesting every day.
I only passed through here in '87. That's what I get for taking one of those group tours!
What a wonderful step back into time! Your impressions of the castle are great!
I have only seen the Castle on the Lebkuchen boxes so far - interesting page, Christian, well done!
