Gdansk can look back on more than thousand years of town history. It is located at the mouth of the Vistula River on the Baltic Sea and was once the free port of the Hanseatic city of Danzig. Like a lot of Polish towns, Gdansk lay in ruins after WWII. After restoration it now offers numerous sights.
Gdansk played a central role in the development of the Polish Solidarity Union. Lech Walesa organized a series of strikes in Gdansk's shipyards in the 1980s and as the movement succeeded, Walesa became president of Poland.
I was here with my friend in 2003 for a short visit only. Hope to return in the very near future. There is much more to see then you can read on my page.

Had some time today to do some rating :-) Now it's off to work again.....yet another great page here!
To save a little money, I'll just photograph those folks in medieval armour and run like the devil (those folks can't run but so fast surrounded by metal).
Interesting page. Hope you had great time in Gdansk :) Greetings from Warsaw.
