Paulinzella is with its about 100 inhabitants a very small and historic town in the Thuringia Forest. The town was founded by Paulina, a Saxon aristocrat in the valley of the Rottenbach creek between 1102 and 1105 and attracts with its huge Benedictian monastery church. Since the 16th century, Paulinzella served as a department for the Earls and the later Princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. It became a favourite hunting lodge for them.
