Kaunas has about 450000 inhabitants and is located at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers. Its history dates back to the year 1361 when it got its city charter. The centre was not damaged in World War Two and still offers visitors its old charm. Outside the centre you see traces of the Soviet occupation - multi-stored buildings and multi-laned express ways.
