Potsdam is located on the Havel River, on Berlin’s doorstep and has a population of about 135,000. It is the administrative centre of Brandenburg. Here the State government has its headquarters and all the Ministries and Offices. The city was badly damaged by bombing in World War II (1939-1945) and rebuilt only recently. In 1945 it was the site of the Potsdam Conference.
Potsdam offers visitors numerous attractions, for instance the Sanssouci Palace (1745-1747), built by Frederick II, which is an UNESCO World Heritage, the Babelsberg Film Park and some hidden gems in the old town.
