Ulm, founded in 9th century, is situated on the banks of the river Danube. It is divided into Ulm and Neu-Ulm by the boundary between the Federal States of Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria. Ulm's cathedral owns world's highest church spire and the town was also the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Ulm was the scene of a battle in 1805 in which Napoleon defeated the Austrians. Today Ulm has about 115,000 inhabitants and is an important university and industrial town. |
