The Hessian state capital is located on the banks of the Rhine River and at the southern foot of the Taunus Mountains. Its 26 hot springs and their therapeutic effects made this site a popular place to settle with the Romans in 12 BC. The name Wiesbaden ("meadow bath”) came into use in the 9th century. Today, Wiesbaden is an important wine-trade and cultural center and still attracts visitors with its spas. Due to its location in the Rhine-Main-area Wiesbaden has become an important economic centre and seat of many international companies. |
