Magdeburg is located in the Elbe-Boerde-Heath, has about 230,000 inhabitants and is the capital of Sachsen-Anhalt. Magdeburg's culture and history is dating back about 1200 years. It became popular by the physicist Otto von Guericke, the inventor of the vacuum pump and his famous hemisphere experiment.

The Harz is the northernmost German mountain region. With the granite summit of the Brocken the Harz rises up to 1142 metres (4477 feet). Harz means spruce forests, rock fields and moors as well as picturesque towns. Here you find more than 500 kilometres of well-prepared cross-country courses and Alpine sport is possible as well in the winter. It is all over the year an ideal place for hiking and recreation.

Quedlinburg is situated on the east side of the Harz region. The town was founded in 10th century by King Henry I of Saxony. In December 1994, the old town of Quedlinburg was placed under the protection of UNESCO´s World Cultural Heritage list. Today you find here authentic architecture of all styles and epochs, erected within the past 1000 years!

Bitterfeld was first mentioned on May 28, 1224. In 1637 the city was conquered and despoiled by the Swedes. 13 years later the Swedes burnt down and left the city. In 1815 Saxony lost Bitterfeld in the Battle of the Nations to Prussia. Bitterfeld has become an industrial centre due to the open lignite mining.

Naumburg is one of the most beautiful towns of Germany. It is located in the wine-growing region of Saale-Unstrut, close to Leipzig. Founded by the margraves of Meissen in about 1000, Naumburg became seat of bishops in 1028. It received town rights in 1142. Its town centre offers a million of historic and architectural highlights, like the Cathedral and the town hall.

Wittenberg is located on the Elbe River in the Duebener Heath and was first mentioned in a document of 1180. The town was birthplace of the Lutheran Reformation. In 1517 Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses opposing the granting of indulgences on the door of Castle Church. Today, Wittenberg has about 55,000 inhabitants.
