The Celts founded Würzburg about 650 B.C. on a hill next to the Main River. On this place you find Marienberg Castle on present day. Würzburg is surrounded by pleasant hillside vineyards and vast forests. Würzburg offers visitors numerous historic buildings of the Romanticism, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. The major sights are the Residenz Palace that today is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and Marienberg Fortress, dominating the skyline and overlooking the beautiful Old Town. The centre attracts with cafes, romantic restaurants and lovely narrow streets with its small shops.
- Pros:Beautiful well-restored buildings, great fortress and residenz

nice city with ancient traditions in architecture.
Beautiful Wuerzburg...if Paul thinks this city was destroyed "badly"...he should see other cities in Germany :) I love this town!
I found Wurzburg to be a somewhat sad place because it was so badly damaged during WWII. An interesting page just the same.
Wow, what a page! Very nice pictures and good tips! nice update, too!
