Half-timbered Houses

Everywhere in the Old Town you find half-timbered buildings. Such a half-timbered building has exposed wood framing filled with plaster, brick, or stone in the spaces.

Castle of Celle - Celle

Castle of Celle

Castle of Celle

Duke Ernst the Confessor enlarged a former small royal residence logde to a Renaissance Castle in 1530. Duke Georg Wilhelm (1665-1705) and his wife Eleonore d'Olbreuse have given the castle its present Baroque style. Over the years the castle has become enlarged and remodeled.

Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to visit the interior of the castle. I was told that the exhibition inside is dedicated to the history of the kingdom of Hannover.

Town Church - Celle

Town Church

Town Church

The construction of the 700 year old Gothic Town church began with the town`s foundation. Later, the Dukes of Celle enlarged and remodeled the church to Renaissance and Barrel style.
It is possible to climb the 74,5 m (244 ft) high tower church to have a breathtaking view over the city.

They charge you one Euro only to climb up. It really worh the money. Take a look on my travelogue to see what you would see up there.
