El Paso and Ciudad Juárez are in fact ONE CITY IN TWO COUNTRIES:
When this area was part of Mexico, the original city name was Paso del Norte (Northern Pass), refering to the fact of being a crossing point of the Bravo river (Grande in the US). The city was at both sides of the river. When the war came, the northern side became part of the US and the southern side remained in Mexico. Then the Americans shortened that half to El Paso (The Pass) and 30 years later Mexico changed its half to Ciudad Juárez (Juarez City) to honour Benito Juárez, the greatest President it has had.
Total population for both sides is more than 2.5 million.
