Buy a ticket for a Canal Bus ride, which has 11 stops. There is a recorded commentary on board to help you understand where you will be going, and get to know some interesting facts. You can hop on and hop off as you please till noon the next day! It's worth it and a fun, relaxing way of getting around!

Here you will find wax figures which show Dutch Culture, from history till today, including the Dutch Royal Family, popstars and so on.... It's fun if you've never been to a Madame Tussauds before, but if you've been before anywhere else in the world, it's not really worth going!! Most of the figures are the same. It's about 12 Euros to get in, for a single adult - on entrance they snap a free photo for you with Arnold Schwazenager, which you collect on your way out! :)

Vondel Park - It's a beautiful, quiet and serene place, where people come here to relax, meditate, sing, play an instrument, or just simply for a stroll.... There is also a cafe called Vertigo, which I heard is quite good, and a film museum can be found there.

The Filmmuseum presents new films, both Dutch and foreign art films. The collection includes thousands of films, and many photos, posters, papers and other witnesses of film history. The film collection has a wide range, from 1898 onwards. The Filmmuseum presents at least three daily screenings: theme programmes, classics, archive films, Grolsch Master Movie (favourites), Mondo Bizarro (cult films), and screenings for children.

Well, Amsterdam is well-known for its free drug/sex open mind mentality, so a visit to the sex museum would fit into your holiday just right. It's quite a laugh actually, and really nothing special. All you see is a bunch of porno photos from like the 1800's till today, and some funny naked statues flashing or giving you frights! It's only about 2 Euros to get in, so why not?! :)

There is a prescribed route to follow while you're visiting the house: Proceeding from the modern building on Prinsengracht into the building which houses the actual Secret Annex - home to Anne Frank for the 25 months she was in hiding and the place where she wrote her diary. It's very moving and sad to see the way they lived, always had to be very silent, however were somewhat content with the little they had, such as posters of popstars still stuck on Anne's bedroom wall... Yes, it is quite interesting, so I advise you to go see it!

The Rijks museum houses the largest collection of art and history in the Netherlands. The museum has an internationally renowned collection based around the paintings of the seventeenth-century Dutch Republic, the Golden Age, including twenty works by Rembrandt, four by Vermeer and numerous other paintings by artists such as Frans Hals and Jan Steen. Displayed at the very heart of the museum is Rembrandt’s Night Watch. But the museum houses more than just paintings: there are superb collections of silver, delftware, doll’s houses, prints, drawings, the mysterious Asiatic art and a recent completely renovated presentation on Dutch history. Works of art on paper, prints and drawings and since 1996 the photographic collection, are shown four times a year in different exhibitions. (Info taken from website mentioned)

The Royal Palace of Amsterdam was built in the 17th century as the new city hall of Amsterdam. After the signing of the peace treaty of Munster in 1648, Amsterdam started to execute its ambitious plan for a new city hall. The city council chose Jacob van Campen's design for a large and impressive building. The power and wealth of the city of Amsterdam in the recently established Republic of the Netherlands are reflected in the building and its interior design. These ideals have been portrayed in the sculptures by Artus Quellien and in the paintings by e.g. Govert Flinck and Ferdinand Bol. When King Louis Napoleon came to Amsterdam in 1808 he had the city hall turned into a royal palace. The large collection of Empire style furniture, chandeliers and clocks date from this period. The palace is still used for official functions by her Majesty the Queen. In the Summer the palace is open to the public. Guided tours for groups can be arranged by appointment all year round.
