What happens when you get 40+ strangers together under one roof in one of the most magnificent cities in the world????

Let's find out, shall we?!

Let’s gather round the CITY BY THE BAY and demonstrate a carefree, albeit somewhat reckless and unquestionably fresh approach to a new kind of VT meeting! Step out of the VIRTUAL WORLD, unplug those PCs and let’s log into LIFE………or something like it!

We may not have a lot in common other than the fact that we LOVE TO TRAVEL and meet new faces!!!

SAN FRANCISCO starting on FRIDAY, JAN 31st, 2003.

If you’re in town, out of town, want to come to town….join us during this MUST SEE event. It will be a “new” kind of VT outing for a brand new year!

We’ll start the day with BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT on our brains and do a brisk walk through the beautiful sights of our City by the Bay...cruise to Alcatraz. Many great photo opportunities for your San Francisco VT pages!

Then as the sun sets on the Golden Gate, we will continue on with (as Giampiero envisions it)
drinking debauchery and decadence………….and have a delectable Moroccan dinner at EL MANSOUR, followed by tripping the light fantastic and sample the SF nightlife!


The “Infamous” DISCUSSIONS:


The idea came into fruition on Nov. 15, 2002. Why not have a VT meeting in San Francisco? I wasn’t sure if it was ever done before. Thus, the FIRST posting went up:

We discussed location, dates, times, itinerary, picking numbers……..then it moved on to fascinating topics such as stale jellied carrots, overdue baked brie, a Spaniard’s social life in Madrid, even French philosophers were thrown into the mix!

Still needing to plan this VT gathering that was a couple months away, Geisha_Girl wanted to stay focused on the business at hand. Who was coming? How many for cocktails on Friday? Alcatraz? Dinner? Dim Sum? We stayed on target with the topic for ohhhh……a DAY or so!! Then it was on to “Mile High Club” discussions….getting “lucky” on a bus……Birthday bashes in Ibiza…….leather shops in SF…….and sexy cartoon characters!

Wait! Almost there !! The Day of Decadence is almost here….so we must just “tie up a few loose ends.” Let’s focus on HOTELS people, HOTELS!!!! We discussed, we debated……at one point we made A$$E$$ out of ourselves (literally!)…….all in good fun and not to be taken seriously.

It just goes to show how so many strangers on one planet just need one commonality to unite and make this virtual community just one big Beach Blanket Bingo!

Thank you everyone for keeping the Forum alive and kicking throughout these months of party planning!! The VT MADNESS BLOWOUT in San Francisco was a success because of each and every one of you who made the effort to participate!!

New friendships were formed from all of this madness. New discoveries. Very cool.

MINI VT MEETINGS!!

ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET TO THE LAND OF EDO

We held several "mini" events in honor of some of our distinguished members of the VT community from JAPAN who made stopovers in our beautiful City by the Bay:

Friday, March 14,2003 - DGEORGE10 (affectionately known as "El Calvito") flew in for tapas and some "bar-top dancing" with GEISHA_GIRL (see "Nightlife tips" for photos on that "ear chomping" event!)

Friday, May 9, 2003 - We ROLLED OUT THE RED CARPET for our friend, Mori (o00o) who certainly left his FOOTPRINTS in the City by the Bay as GEISHA_GIRL and friends joined him and his friend, Shin, for a unique “San Francisco experience” – Dinner at ASIA SF, a renowned restaurant and nightclub located in the heart of San Francisco comprised of a restaurant, lounge, bar and subterranean dance club. Colorful, provocative performances by gender illusionists -- who double as waitstaff. It was a fun, “dramatic” night indeed! (See "Restaurant Tips" for more photos)

Saturday, May 17, 2003 - ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET PART 2 - The BEAST enters the Beauty of the GOLDEN GATES!!!

GEISHA_GIRL and ANNAPET come together to “paint the town red” with our resident Venezuelan Intellect living in Japan, MANUELEB. It was a night filled with a bit o’ Latin flavah: Tapas, Havana Rum, Partagas Cigars, and a little bit o’ Cha Cha (Cha):

Tapas and Sangria at ALEGRIA'S (Lombard St.)

Then a night of live SALSA music at CAFE COCOMO

Sunday was a visit to the Napa Valley wineries

Our night ended as a twist of luck had us VTers being welcomed into a gracious home full of "strangers."

It was another MEMORABLE weekend in the City by the Bay!
