Originally famous for its granite and fishing, Aberdeen is now the oil captial of Great Britian. It's the third largest city in Scotland with about 225,000 people.
The town is centered around one main street, Union Street. Off here, are most of the resturants, shops, and bars. Aberdeen has SO many bars. The biggest passion here is drinking.
The weather is abnormally constant. It gets to a high of about 40F (5C) in the winter, but it only makes it to about 60F (15 C) in the summer.
Lonely Planet says Aberdeen's granite buildings make it dull in the rain, but sparkle in the sunshine. Unfortnuately, it rains all the time here. I think the weather forecasters even have given up on trying to predict anything but rain and showers. If you want a laugh go to weather.com and look at the 10 day forecast for Aberdeen and I'll bet ya that all 10 days are forecasted for rain.
Since it is rather far north 58 degrees north latitude, it'll be quite dark in the winter. It won't get light to about 9:30 and be dark by 3:30. In the summer, it'll stay light until after 10:30. |
