Sometimes a surprise comes from above :) not, it's not a "common" rain, it's something worst... so, pay attention expecially in Saint Mark's Square. Also because now - you can see the spikes on the light in the pic - pigeons on palaces and monuments are not so welcome here eheh...

Warnings Or Dangers: Beware with the alternative plates!

In Venice, but expecially in Mestre, air pollution is very dangerous. Lot of cars and TIR everyday take tangential, Marghera's industries and general climate generate very often high pollution, very dangerous for citizen. Venice's municipality has one only way to combat this pollution: they want to close Mestre to the car trafic, thinking that is enough... No comments about this idea. I want you to know when Mestre is closed to the trafic:
- Every thursday and every friday of February and March (except 19-20 february) there are the alternative plates. If day is odd, you can circulate in centre only if you have odd number as the last in your plate. The same if you have a pair number.
The prohibition is from 9am to 7pm.
So, in example, if your plate is AA 003 AA, you can circulate (thursday and friday) only if it is an odd day, for example the 5th of february.
- There are sometimes some Sunday-With-No-Cars. In this situation no cars are admit to the centre.
- An idea (fantastic! yeah! $%£#@!) for the future: to pay to enter in the city with your car... but luckily for the moment, these are just words...

Venice has not cars, as you know. But when there are very important events, like Carnival, it is necessary to follow the signal of trafic by foot like you have a car. It is very strange to see a policeman directing the pedestrian trafic, but I suggest to follow his directions. Fines for people who go in the opposite sense arrive until 500€ (it's not a joke, read my magazine).
