Bridges: The Construction of the Fourth Bridge

Favorite Thing: Probably you don't know that in Venice they are building a new bridge on Grand Canal, which name will be "Ponte Calatrava" ( Calatrava's Bridge).
The new bridge will connect Piazzale Roma, the city when you leave your car, with the opposite side near the railway station.
The name "Calatrava" is about the owner of the project.
Actually if you go to Piazzale Roma, you can look how the costruction goes on...

Bridges: Strange position for the 4th Bridge

Favorite Thing: In my opinion the construction of Calatrava's Bridge is not so useful. The fourth Bridge is placed not far from Scalzi's Bridge, the Grand Canal is long about 3,8 km and I think other zones needed a bridge more than Piazzale Roma... btw, the bridge has a style which - imho - doesn't combine a lot with Venice... Favorite Thing: One of the symbols of Venice... It's appraised that during the XIV century there were in Venice about 10000 gondolas, with lot of colours. After an order by law (1562), all gondolas became black. They have standard measures and the construction is not easy: they are long 11 metres and width 1.75 mt.
Fondest Memory: By the popular tradition, the tooths are 6 like the sestrieres.

Favorite Thing: Another thing for which Venice is famous is the "altana" (Venetian roof-terrace). If you raise up the eyes to the roofs, you often see them... an altana is a terrace with a design similar to a pilework... in summer venetian people here take the sun or - if the altana is quite big - also eat :)
