Hidden Venice...

by rich77 - last update: Jan 25, 2006

...how to fall in love with Venice...

Saint Mark's Square, Venice, February 2004
This has been "my city" for 8 years. I've studied Informatic Science in the University of Venice-Mestre and only a year after my graduation I decided to move from there. But I keep lot of beautiful moments there and "some" pics, and also I have my friends there, so I often return...

My first memory of Venice is a foggy and confused day of about 20 years ago, with my parents. I didn't like this city. I found it bad-smelling, touristic and uncomfortable.

After 20 years, the city is the same, maybe it has more tourists than in the 80s... but something has changed inside me. In fact, actually I'm falling in love with Venice, and I don't know exactly what has happened... but I just know that every time I go inside the streets, every time I look up the palaces and a new monument my heart is full of emotions.
I have a suggest for the people who go here for the first time... after you see the classical touristic tour (San Marco's Square, Rialto and Accademia Bridge, the Canal Grande and maybe Campo Santa Margherita), leave your guide at the hotel... and walk in Venice without rules.
Walk, walk and walk... and let you lose yourself in this amazing city, let you discover another Venice without tourists, without shops, without bars... so you will love it, I'm sure...

The Venice Project

Some year ago, I started to read a new book about Venice. This book changed my behaviour with Venice. In fact, it is not the classical guide... it told me about old hidden palaces, canals and calles... and it made me to dream... So, I decided to go myself in these places to take some pics.
There are a lot of not-known stories about these palaces, I would try to tell you...

So, if you are interested in, see my "Off the beaten path" tips :)
