Important Dates

1147 - The first of Moscow is made in chronicles. The city was founded by Prince Yury Dolgoruky
1156 - Construction of a wooden fortress on Borovitsky Hill on the territory of the present Kremlin
1237 - Beginning of the Mongol-Tatar invasion.
12-13 cc. - Moscow becomes the centre of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality.
The end of 13 c. - The construction of the first stone churches.
1367 - Building of the whitestone Kremlin and the first stone bridge across Neglinnaya River near the Kremlin.
14 c. - Moscow emerges as the centre of the sovereign Moscow Principality.
15 c. - Moscow emerged as the capital of a centralized state.
15-16 cc. - The construction of the new Kremlin with brick walls as it has been preserved up to present days.
1610-1612 - The liberation of Moscow from Polish troops by the People's Defence Force under the leadership of merchant Kozma Minin and Prince
1687- The founding of the Slavonic-Greco-Latin Academy.
1712 - The transfer of the Capital from Moscow to Petersburg.
1755 - The foundation of the first Russian University
1812 - For 39 days Moscow was in the hands of Napoleon's Army. The fire, that enveloped the city, destroyed most of it.
The end of 19 c. - Moscow, together with Petersburg, becomes an industrial, transport and cultural centre of Russia.
1917 - The victory of the October Revolution.
1918 - The Soviet Government moves from Petersburg to Moscow and it becomes the state capital again.
1935 - The opening of the first line of the Moscow Metro.
1941-1945 - The Great Patriotic War (WW II). The State Defence Committee and the General staff were situated in Moscow.
1957 - The World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow.
1980 - The XXII Summer Olympic Games.
12 June 1991 - The election of the first President of Russia and the first Major of Moscow.
19-21 August 1991 - The abortive coup attempt. Moscow becomes the centre of the democratic movement.

 Fantastic description of the "House on the Embankment". I am just back from 8 days Moscow and I lived almost opposite this House on the Embankment.
