St. Catherine. - Sharm El Sheikh
St. Catherine. St. Catherine's Monastery Review

Venerated by Christians, Muslims and Jews as the site where God gave his Ten Commandments, Mount Sinai (Mount Moses) overlooking the valley where Moses is said to have heard the Lord speaking from a burning bush. The bush is now enshrined in Saint Catherine's Monastery, nestling in a valley at the feet of the Mount, surrounded by high walls and lush gardens. Despite of an apparent isolation, St. Catherine can be rich quite easy even from Cairo, Nuweiba, Dahab or another part. Good to know is that is more cheap to take a bus to Suez (6.00 in the morning) and from there make your way to Cairo. Accommodations are available in the St. Catherine village or at monastery. If you want to sleep over night on the summit of Mt. Sinai, you can drop your luggage at the monastery for 3 pounds.

Ras Mohammed - Sharm El Sheikh
Ras Mohammed Ras Mohammed National Park Review

Ras Mohammed is a small peninsula, fringed with lagoons and reefs, that was declared a nature reserve in 1983 and became the first marine National Park in Egypt in 1989. All of the thousand odd species of fish that occur in the Red Sea and 150 types of corals are represented here. The age of this amassing ecosystem is evinced by marine fossils in the bedrock dating back twenty million years. On the shoreline are newcomers only 75.000 years. You can visit the National Park any day from sunrise to sunset. Be aware if you don't carry a full Egyptian visa. The better way to visit the park is to hire a car, because the perimeter is too big to cover by walk. There are places to hire diving gear as well as you can get here in a camel trip from Dahab or Sharm el-Sheikh.

Dahab - Sharm El Sheikh

Dahab

Dahab Dahab Review

Dahab means gold in Arabic. It is said that this name was given by the Bedouins, who likened the shimmering sands to gold dust.
Dahab, located approximately 100km northwest of Sharm El-Sheikh, is still considered to be one of South Sinai's most treasured diving spots.
It is famous for its golden beaches and deceptively deep diving sites, such as the Blue Hole, the Canyon and the Lighthouse.
The area is divided into two areas; the tourist centre where the major hotels are found and the Bedouin village of Assalah, which a lot of budget travellers find attractive because of its numerous restaurants and cheap accommodation.

Coloured Canyon

Coloured Canyon Coloured Canyon Review

The Coloured Canyon is located near Nuweiba, in the eastern Sinai desert. It derives its name from the colouring of the sandstone, which varies between yellow and red.

Mount Moses - Sharm El Sheikh

Mount Moses

Mount Moses (Jebel Musa) Moses Mountain - Jebel Musa Review

John Lloyd Stephens said that 'Among all the stupendous works of Nature, not a place can be selected more fitting for the exhibition of Almighty power. Mount Sinai is both the name of a collection of peaks, sometimes referred to as the Holy Mountains, and the biblical name of the peek on which Moses received the Ten Commandments. Mount Mousa (or Musa), also referred to as Jebel Musa, Gebel Mousa, Mount Moses or the Mountain of Moses (all of which basically means the same thing) is considered to be that biblical peak. This peak has religious significance to Islam as the place where Mohammed's horse, Boraq, ascended to heaven. The 7,497 foot mountain has 3,750 steps hewn out of stone by monks of St. Catherine's Monastery, which is located just to the North. The peak is accessible by the steps, or by a gentler path east of the monastery. Both lead to an amphitheater known as the 'Seven Elders of Israel'. From there, one must ascend the remaining 750 steps to reach the summit where the Chapel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1934 (on the location of the original chapel built in 363 and rebuilt by Justinian in 530) and affords a truly breathtaking view. It is recommended that you take the steps down, as they will lead you past the fountain of Moses, a small chapel of the Virgin, and two arches, the Gate of St. Stephen and the Gate of the Law.
