    • d'Angleterre Hotel or Astoria Hotel (they are in the wall-to-wall buildings, even connected together by a passage)

    Unique Qualities: Very good location. Some windows overview St Isaac Cathedral, is close to Neva River and 5min walk to Nevsky Prospekt and Hermitage.
    Check the sites for d'Angleterre and Astoria.
    He-he! This time I was on my biz trip, so my employer paid for this chic lodging! :)))

    • 1st of all, I didn't live there, I lived nearby and usually went to hotels restaurant
    2nd, the hotel survived rennovation several years ago and no more looks "typically soviet", can't tell you about the rooms but lobby interior and restaurant food are decent, not of very high standard but accebtable...

    Unique Qualities: The hotel stands on Moskovsky prespekt (avenue), wide and very long thoroughfare of the city, which leads from Pulkovo airport almost to Nevesky Prespekt.
    By taxi it takes about 15 minutes to get to the airport and about 20-25 to the very center of the city.
    There is a metro stop nearby.
