One thing that one should never miss in the netherlands are the gardens of keukenhof, located just south of Amsterdam. They are open only 8 weeks per year from mid-March to mid-May, but the very best time to visit is the last week of April or the first week of May. The gardens are the most beautiful in the world, I think.
