Traditional dress
I found this shop that had really great traditional costumes of Sweden and the other Sandinavian countries..but then again, I wouldn't feel too comfortable wearing that on my vacation in say...India? What they do have that is practical, nice, and a great thing you can use are the Scandinavian sweaters. It is often cold up here in Sweden, and even in the summer there are cool breezes..so think about bringing a sweater or at least buying one! They also ship!!!
Oh, and I am sorry, this picture is not my own! I had to us the girl featured in the store's advertisement.

Ahlens
There are three big important department stores in central Stockholm and if you really want to get to know the city, you at least have to go in and have a look around.
Ahlens has clothes with their own label and their is a nice selection of glassware. Downstairs in the basement there is a supermarket.
Open 10 AM - 7 PM Monday through Saturday and 11 AM - 6 PM on Sundays. They have their own website at www.ahlens.com, but the website is only in Swedish.
The "NK" (Nordiska Kompaniet--Nordic Company) department store is HUGE and has a great selection of Swedish handicrafts and also chocolate (yum!). This is also a good place to look for books in English. Also a supermarket in the basement. Open 10 AM - 7 PM Monday through Friday, 10 AM - 5 PM on Saturday, and noon to 5 PM on Sunday. There are different hours in June and July. Their website is also only in Swedish.
The other department store is called "Pub", which is a smaller version of the other two. Open 10 AM - 7 PM Monday through Friday, 10 AM - 5 PM on Saturday, and noon to 5 PM on Sunday.

Swedish glass
In many shops in old town (Gamla Stan), you'll find beautiful examples of Swedish glassware. You' also find beautiful glassware in the big department stores of Stockholm, "Ahlens" and "NK". Good quality glass is expensive, but if you really like it, it makes a nice souvenir or gift as it is typical of Sweden.
There is a very interesting website that tells you about Sweden's long history in glass making. Click here to see the site.

Biblioteeksgatan
Central Stockholm has quite a number of little shopping streets to explore, and I found this one to be quite nice. It is a pedestrian street called Biblioteeksgatan, near the subway Ostermalmstorg. It is a short street with some high end fashion shops, and is conveniently located next to other interesting streets like Norrlandsgatan and Birger Jarlsgatan, so you can explore all of them at the same time. The street was particularly nice in the evening, though the shops were closed, of course.

Grey's American food store
If you are American or know some typical American supermarket items and have a hard time finding them in Europe, this is a great place. I live outside the US (and usually don't miss it too much), but when I walked in this small store in the old town (Gamla Stan), I realized there were so many things I was missing! Reeses peanut butter cups, Quaker Oatmeal, chips and salsa, cranberry sauce, etc etc..
I would say this store is particularly good if you are an America living overseas or if you will be staying in Stockholm for a longer time. If you're only over in Europe from the states for a short time, I would skip the store and just wait until you are home again!
What to buy: It's located on the main pedestrian street called Vasterlanggatan, in old town (Gamla Stan)
