Ushuaia is nowadays the capital of the Argentine province known as Tierra del Fuego, and is supposedly the southernmost city in the world. Long before the city was founded, this was the home of the Yamana Indians. Their story is fascinating. They mostly lived in small huts but spent most of their time in their canoes, navigating the waters of the famed Beagle Channel. They wore no clothes yet had no problem to withstand the extreme cold and wind that is ever present here at the end of the world.
In days to come, I will be adding more pics and info to my Ushuaia page. And hopefully I'll be able to give more info about the incredible Yamanas, though they no longer exist. |
