Crossing from Chad we were given an armed guard to escort us to the actual border and camped overnight in no-mans land. Crossing the next morning to El Geneina where we would stay for a couple of days while all the paperwork was processed for the truck. Not a bad spot, we camped in the Customs compound and spent most of the time across the road (not really a road more like a strip of sand that vehicles drive on) drinking sweet tea and partaking of the bbq goat with chilli/peanut dipping sauce or one of the many tajenes. Our second favourite spot was the "Pepsi" tree outside the wee shop next door to the compound. The tree so named because we would buy a 2litre ice cold bottle of the stuff and laze under the tree drinking it. See my travelogues for the rest of this journey including photos......Ange |
