a place to splurge a bit - very popular with visitors from Hong Kong as the sister restaurant is award winning and cost a lot more.

great location - with good patio to walk and watch over the bund and across the river is pudong. just love the view!!!

Favorite Dish: food there is excellent - large portion - the bread there is yummy - such as olive bread etc. The desserts also excellent.

This is a place we go faithfully - and the recent trips- they gave us 10 pct discount!!!

Favorite Dish: For entree - we love cold dishes...they do it so well here. Simple things like shredded chicken with peanut sauce - ban ban gai, and also cold shredded jelly fish - so yummy.

l love their sweet and sour fish - the sauce here is awesome with chunks of fresh pineapple, onions, pine nuts...
slow cooked pork trotters, beef cooked with crispy chinese curlers with pine nuts etc,
    crispy duck ...
and also best of all was the 'free' dessert...which I always demand for seconds!!!

it is a very crispy STICKY RICE pancake sandwiched with red bean and banana and i am not sure what else....but it is to die for.

steaming hot shanghai dumpling (xiao long pow) and it comes in baskets of teens. most local people eat lots of them. i could not understand why...until you eat it. pretty hot and has just enough meat and enough meat sauce oozing out of the dumpling!!!

Favorite Dish: xiao long pow - long queue but worth it

Park 97 at the Fuxing Park: Park 97 at the Fuxing Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Park 97 at the Fuxing Park

This is yet another off shoot from Hong Kong, the sister is Hong Kong Post 97, and also another great place to dine at. The restaurant occupies a great location at the Fuxing Park although it took me a while to locate it. Walking around this aread of the French quarter was pleasant. This park has lots of activity with old men tai chi, children running around, even some dancing to some old waltz move. The park closes early, but if you are having dinner there go via the Gaolan Road entrance.

Favorite Dish: Yummy cake and interserting drinks. I had pumpkin cheesecakes there and it was best of all -

They have a great dinner menu - but we were running short of time to include the venue for dinner and opted to go there for tea break during Xmas day.

Three On The Bund - Jean George: best of fine dining

  • Restaurant Name: Three On The Bund - Jean George

we were planning to visit M on the Bund, and stumbled on Three on the Bund instead. It is across from M, and on the same road.

Three on the Bund is very very interesting complex of several levels of fashionable restaurants, and Evian spa (the only one i know outside France) and a barber.

The ground floor has Armani boutiques, a wine shop etc, and the floors above is just amazing. You have top notch chefs Laris and Jean Georges, and a funky Whampoa Club restaurants, and several others. The cupola of the building is also the most discreet dining place.... we did not get there, but i was told it seats only very few diners due to its constraint size.

I was told it belonged to one GT group!!!

Favorite Dish: At Jean George, the decor is a bit too dark for my liking. The bread rolls are really good...on that day it was rye with dark cherry. it was crusty and chewy. And for 188 rmb, you can have 3 course lunch from plenty to choose.
We tried several signature dishes, including brulee foie grass on champagne jelly, crabcake etc. A very very enjoyable lunch indeed!!! desserts are worth noting - they have chocolate temptaions, tropical ones, etc. I had chocolate which came with frothy milk with peanuuty flavoiur, a rich molten chocolate muffin which had warm flowing chocolate as you dig in, and the best rum and banana ice cream. Lets put it this way...no way can you dine in a

Wang Jia Sha: The best best Xiao Long Pao
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: Wang Jia Sha

along Nanjing Road.... but far off the bund, a local treat where you find lots of old folks clad in white coats and white caps, busy filling the skin with paste made of meat-crab meat and crab egg. Terribly yummy although the decor - hmhmh...not the best. Downstairs is cheap like canteen style, you pay for tokens and then queue to order. The only thing I like here was the crab meat xiao long pao and also the soupy wantan. Other stuff - forget it. Prices cheap downstairs, cost triple upstairs where you are served by terribly impatient waitress.

Di Shui Dong: If you want Fire - they have it here - Hunan cuisi

  • Restaurant Name: Di Shui Dong

I guess my VT frens from Shanghai reckon - Well, she comes from SEAsia where food is predominantly spicy...so which is the best place she will enjoy...ok Hunan cuisine.

Among those who attended the VT meet in Shanghai Feb 27th were

we2364 - who was very very kind to organize this meet... thank you

MaosRedArmy - whose pages filled with lots of great restaurant tips - yes - we must meet up again in KL - we will take you to eat more yummy food...

2rs from Oslo - i am so glad we met - across the world apart in Shanghai.

and their frens, Shaun, Amy and my husband and my brother,.

The restaurants have several outlets; the one we went to was in a fashionable district with lots of nice restaurants neighbouring each other... there was Simply Thai next door...and many others nice looking one such as Sasha's

Favorite Dish: If you want to think hot hot hot...this restaurant will deliver!!! Hunan food - home to Chairman Mao, no kidding...is even spicier than Sichuan food I have tasted. Sichuan is neighbour to Hunan.

The starters were typical cold dish - there was my favourite chilled cucumbers, with sesame oil taste and to my delight, red dates!!
The platter of chicken was liberally tossed with dried peppers, and you really have to sieve through it to find the yummy, crunchy outside but tender insde morsels of chicken. No doubt tasty, but careful not to bite on any of those chillies, you be lashed on FIRE if you unawaringly lick on the tiny innocent looking chiili seeds!!! Nothing could chill me off - like Amy said...i was lobster red!!! I had to swallow a Bowl of plain rice, and douse down with Coke Light !!! phew what an experience.

Nevertheless the meal was sumptuous albeit many dishes after with ate well, there was still looking a platter full of peppers !!!!Is chilli all that cheap in China!!!

Other yummy food besides the really pepperish chicken, fried whole fish with a robust brown sauce also laden with chillies!!! also yummy...but have to go easy with the sauce.

Another dish which is less potent...actually mild - is skwered prawns...whcih was yummy. it reminds me of bbq prawns, and a very mild egg plant dish. Hunan favourite dish is Ma Po Dau Foo - whcih is tofu dish, cooked with meat and hot brown sauce. Very tasty we had to have a second serving.

typical of Chinese meal, it ended with some soothing soup - which my tummy was already filled to the brim by the bowlful of rice and large coke drink, i still managed to tucked into a small bowl of noursihing soup - something similar to what my SEAsian family makes. I guess - some where the line, we are descendants of China, some part of our kitchen and our cooking is not forgotten. I love soup - so i be happy with lots of soup.

To finish the dinner, Mao insisted on Watermelons, while i wanted my chinese dumpling with sesame fillings.

Xintiandi has lots lots of nice eating places...you be hard pressed to choose which one to go for. There is Ye Shanghai which is very very good , and T8 also voted to be one of the best dining by Conde Nast

Eric Perez has won numerous awards for dessert in French competition...so it was a must on my list. Perez came to Shanghai to do Ritz calrton opening, and left with another chef from Face (another interesting place to go to)

We went there after dinner, for desserts...and there was quite a number to choose from this very very small quiant place which is decked with lots of Asian ornaments... there is Chocolate Taster for Two - lots of texture - soft mousse, cakes, etc... profiterols with chocolate sauce etc, .We even took home boxes of hand made chocolates.... frankly it was good chocolate, but I think the ones i get made by thie Asian gal, Chiew Foong at Singapore Raffles is still number one on my list.

Sorry I may choose a wrong food as our dinner. I feel bad when I see you're tearing. But Mao told me they had pain afterwards. So he should learn never be a hedonism. It's very nice to meet you too.
