Train going to Hochschneeberg Most of those visiting Vienna hardly make it the countryside; instead most prefer to take day trips to neighbouring countries such as Czech, Slovakia, Budapest, Hungary etc.
Vter socrates_07 (Oliver) had asked what we (Sharrie and I ) would like to do on Saturday. Oliver had a day off from work.
aaah - we jumped on the chance to get going somewhere!!! It was indeed a treat for me when he volunteered to take us out to the countryside. On my own, I am not sure if I would have been so adventurous.
Thank you Thank you - Oliver and also Melissa for this great plan. | | | Me with the Salamander train |

Wollersdorf The day was simply perfect - nice warm weather and also clear sky. It was indeed a good day to head southwards to the mountains around Puchberg.
We drove passed along the A2 Sudautobahn motorway, exit Wollersdorf, for B21 direction Puchberg. Alternatively one could take the train Sudbahnhof or from Neustadt to Puchberg am Schneeberg.
Schneeberg mountain is the highest mountain of Lower Austria reaching up to 2,075 m. The top of the mountain where the train pulls up is caleld Hochschneeberg. Hoch means high, schneeberg means snowy mountain.
Puchberg am Schneeberg Puchberg am Schneeberg is located eastern edge of the Alps. It is about 80 odd km from Vienna city. There are lots os spa treatment, cafes etc...looks very much like a health farm to me!!!
VTer mel_bee (Melissa) said that many times she was up the mountain, her roaming handphone signal would change to Hungarian service, as Hungary is in the east.
Looking back, it is quite amazing that within an hour or slightly more we see vast lands backed by scenic mountains.
And from Puchberg you must take this nostalgia steam train or the new salamader train up to the tallest mountain in lower Austria.
this may be off track - but Vter socrates_07 got me all excited there may be some old man chopping the alpine woods and make nice craft for shopper-holics like me - trust me the gullible ones

| Pros: | "Breathtaking View and Lots of Alpine, Mountain Flora" | | Cons: | "hmhmhm - Oliver where is the shops!!! no old man making wood craft!!!" | | In A Nutshell: | "Great place to get out of the city" |
