Vienna - Have your Cake and Eat it!!!

Veinna - Capital Of Music

to remember Mozart
My trip to Vienna is the least planned trip. I was very busy with some deadline, and yet managed to be convinced by VTer Sharrie to get out of Malaysia and go somewhere in Europe. We both have some hotel room coupons which was due to expire and as soon as I got the greenlight to travel...I guickly book my ticket and got things going. in less than a 5 days i was on the plane!!!

I must say I discovered a lot of things - the ignorant me but of course I knew some. I am not that Blur Blob after all. All I knew was Vienna must be the centre of Classical Music - but I surely did not know that Vienna was the cause of WWI ( thanks socrates_07)

*******
Need I repeat that Vienna is the Capital of Music:

* The Blue Danube , The Emperor Waltz - both are by Strauss;
* The wonderful entertaining violin piece, The Magic Flute by Mozart
and of course Marriage of Figaro
*The lobby and elevator music and often music box music, Fur Elise by Beethoven and also not forgetting Moonlight Serenade...
*Whatabout the Schubert's Fantasy in F Minor...the list goes on.

Without much regard, all these great musicians made Vienna their hometown.

You will see many Mozarts wannabe trying to sell you tickets to some daily concerts, or you can go to the operas and there will be people trying to flock off tickets at higher prices...but do look out at posters for other possibles concerts available.
so many kids visiting Vienna churches

Vienna - the city of Believers!!!

You cannot believe how many churches you can visit while in Vienna...it is endless.

Yes I know Europe is all about churches, musuems and palaces...but hey - Vienna churches are of many styles...you will never get tired of appreciating and admiring them.

You have the great St Stepans Cathderal whith its awesome Gothic spirals and maghificent interior...and then you have many others Greek, Matlese, synagogues to visit....

The number of churches goes back their history. Lots of churches and also columns and fountains that you see in the city are in thanksgiving for the deliverence from plagues that swept through much of Europe and also from the attacks from the Turks.

You will see how tasteful the churches are decorated, the styles - some are mixture of Gothic, Romans etc.... many of the churches went through uogrades through the centuries so you will see additional styles added on...but the end result is just awesome.
Many of the churches have lifts to the cupola giving you a close look at the fresco... well, you can also try to take a back bending climb up the tower of the grand St Stephan Cathedral.

Vienna - the city of Pork Chops and Cakes

My greatest passion - is to eat -
I just enjoy food - like some people say I am like a cow - I have different stomach for different things - one for main meal, and one for snacks, one for desserts...and the list goes on.

And Vienna is trully a city never to visit when you are on a diet!!! rather like Garfield says it is to die with T(ea)

Here the passion of protein (schnitzels) is sort of outstripped by the compulsion to eat cakes!!! There are just one too many heuriger to visit for local wine and delicious pork chops - try to look out for the ultra thin one sbut the Bohemian ones have got a nice smokey flavour to it and also gosh b'gosh - the amount of cafes and also famous konditorei - is enough to send my sugar level surging....

There is the famous Sachertorte to be have - it is an old traditional European cake - which has strong ties in Vienna....there are stories that two confectionary has claimed rights to its recipe - and having been to court for settlement!!!
While I found the cake a little overated, but really they do make lots of delicious cakes (tortes) - some light and some dense!!!

My experience was there in Vienna they are great at layered cakes - you know those light sponge layers with fillings...and light cheese fillings are popular and some have berry toppings, so are chocs ones and I liked the one which had banana in it, and surpisingly I did also enjoy their Linzertorte....esplly from konditeroi Oberlaa....to die for!!!
And of course...do not forget to try out Apple Strudel and if you have the heart for Cheese ones as well.

Of course to wash down all the cakes - you must have coffee - every where you see people sipping their coffee...melange which is with frothy milk...but with the amount of tourists - they serve the popular caps and latte as well.
