Chinatown Restaurants: Superbowl Restaurant
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Superbowl Restaurant

Cheap place, good for early action!!! as not many places in Chinatown are opened.
They are open almost 24 hours!

Favorite Dish: I went there for breakfast - and also supper (wee wee hours in the morning)
    and they serve congee (porridge)
They have seafood congee, pei tan congee (century egg and skinny pork),
sampan congee (with dry squid and nuts and internals)

They also have set breakfast menu which istypical in Hong Kong -

plain porridge with fried mee hoon, or with steamed noddles flour.

    Chinatown Restaurants: Kam Fook
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Kam Fook

Huge restaurant which I think can seat up to 800 pax. Popular place with Hong Kong Chinese residing in Australia and also travellers. Apparently very good dim sum, but there
    is a long queue -

they have tanks and tanks of live seafood

Favorite Dish: Steamed oysters - excellent and huge,

2 types lobster, first sashimi, and then second is ginger shallots - excellent about 118 per kg

Hiong Sow Ngup - which is yam mashed and layered with duck and fried. this is you like woo kok.

    steam parrot fish

    complimentary soup and fresh fruits.

do not order kai lan - it was awfully old!

  • BBQ King Restaurant (in Chinese called as Tuck Kay)
Grotty looking place but it has been there for yonks. It is not flashy - but their noddles and rice meals almost fast food meals. Good for quick lunch and take away.As a student we used to buy the roast meat, especially char siew and keep them wrapped in foil and during exams season, we would put the meat on the griller and warm up - eat with just boiled rice and sliced cucumber and that is our exam season dinner!!!!

Favorite Dish: Excellent roast goose, duck and pork, suckling pig. I called for a combination to eat with my kiong choong low meen (which is shallots and ginger noddles)

beef and beef tendon noodles (ngau lam loy meen)

They of course of the regular sutff as well - but i love their roast meat. complimentary soup also which they used lots of pork stock to boil for a long time.

    Rockpool: Rockpool
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Rockpool

the ambiance modern - and cosy - nice for a date!!!

Favorite Dish: Euro/Asian fusion food - expensive about 80-100 AUD per pax
One of my favourite place for modern food by the very famous Neil Perry who does
the first class on board Qantas meal.

Immediately after you are seated to serve you the entree, which we got a rice cracker topped with oyster and sichuan vege. After we ordered our drinks, and our meal, they serve the soup, which we had a cold thick vegetable soup served in an egg cup.
I had two entrees, instead of 1 entree and 1 main. I had hand picked mud crab with mango salad, and squid ink pasta (angel hair) with squid - and it comes with a complimentary bib!!! the squid ink is hard to get off!!!. i had black lips after the meal. I ordered house special passion fruit souffle which takes 1/2 hour to prepare.

The menu had slow cooked lamb, pink duck etc...and some Asian sounding food. My friends had ravioli which was excellent, and so was my husband's John Dory fish.

Other deserts we had were rhubard tart (nice and tangy which excellent tart pastry) served with strawberry sorbet, and rum baba which 1977 rum, and also another dessert was mango and coconut pudding...interesting!

Northern Suburbs Restaurants: Bravo best Gelato
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Bravo

I was told by an Italian man (not in Australia), that Bravo is the name of a gelato maker -
    like an ice cream maker.

I like gelato - best from Italy in San Crispino (their fruit flavours are too real to be true). But this is also good....if you cannot make it to Italy!

Favorite Dish: possibly the best gelato in Sydney - if not Australia.
They have 16 flavours - and yum.....all are good. I love their tiramisu, hazelnut and mango flavour...but all are good. If you sit down, you can have mini scoops of all 16 flavours...really mind boggling to try to make up which is which then.

their pasta and pizza are also good....

very crowded - so go early!!!

Leichaardt Restaurants: Pasta and Italian as such
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Mezzapica

I wanted to have an Italian meal and my friend decidedly drove us to Leichardt which has lots of great Italian places, and also very good gelato at an arcade.

We chose Mezzapica based on our familiarity - but there are many great ones in Leichardt area - home to many Italians.

Favorite Dish: As soon as we ordered our drinks, the hotel gave us complementary crispy toast with some olive spread. We ordered some entrees to share - white bait and calamari fried - and also fried zucchini flowers - which was esplly yum becos in the heads of the flower they have studded it with srhimp paste. For mains I insisted on having rice - risotto becos back in Malaysia is bever as good. I had slivers of roast duck breast with truffled risotto while my husband had linguine with fish, mussels etc, and it had a nice stock with it. My friend had fettucini with tomato based sauce and full of scallops, large prawns - everything in shell!!! and another friend had salmon. The serving here is really really huge - I could never eat all that - maybe I could - spread over two meals!!!!

    Northern Suburbs Restaurants: northside thai!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Restaurant Name: Prasits Thai

Modern setting - upstairs - serviced by Thais. They have another outlet more for quick meal. This place is popular with the office crowd in the north Sydney and also lots of Friday night do.

    Lunch Mon-Friday 12-3pm

Favorite Dish: We had barrumundfish with slivers of mango on top - crisp and tangy and really nice - and then we had also a really thick green curry - chicken - and a simple dish of stir fry - vege with prawns. it was yummy and with drinks it came up to AUD100. big serving!!!
