My Second Home!!!

by Audrey118 - last update: Jul 29, 2003

Cherish

I went to school in Sydney during the 1980s, and there are lots of things I love as a student and still would loves them whether is eating, doing etc but it is something I cultivated during my 6 years there.

** Vegemite Toasted Sandwich ( which is quite similar to Marmite and a little bit like Bovril - but not quite as Bovril is beef )

** Sausage Rolls - eaten with hands and lots of ketchup swipe over it - anytime is great for it - tea time - lunch time, break time!!!

** Aussie Meat Pies - be it plain, steak pies, mushrooms pies, or even steak and kidney, and sometime shepherd pies - they are darn good for lunch

** Tim Tams and Kit Kat - have a break !!!

** lollies - i cannot live without them - i love cherry ripe (cherries and coconut), and licorice and minties which can break your tooth, kool mint which looks like moth balls but really chewy and nice

** macadamia nuts - especially if they are covered with chocolate

** CCs - corn chips - now comes with many more flavours such as Tasty Cheese, Nachos, Salsa, Tomato, Chilli and many many more - be careful - very addictive!!!

** Sticky Date Pudding - this was introduced by my pal, Pauline - she thought me how to bake it and now everytime we are in Australia during the cold season we would have a warm pudding with butterscotch sauce - yum

** my favourite fish would be John Dory, then Barramundi, then Sweet Lip - of course their Coral Trout which I think is native to the tropical water though!!!

** Lobster - be it green grilled, or chinese style Ginger and Shallots - or even alive !!!! like sashimi style and you get to see the head moving still. This I acquired to love so much from my pal Stephen.

** red rooster - yummy roast chicken with stuffing

** Wombats, possums, rosellas - my friends Maria and Garry they are real WWF friends.

** bush walking and also national park - but i dread river cruises - so darn boring after 30 minutes - everything looks the same

** sailing - my friend wendy mc donald had yatchs and we used to sail to Palm Beach

Things I loved to Do

Among the stuff I love to do in Sydney is to take the ferry ride from Circular Quay to Manly or any of the northern shore stops. I take to Manly mainly becos it is a very long ride, and I love to sit outside on the deck and enjoy the seabreeze and look back at Sydney skyline.

Of course, there were lots of crazy things we did as school kids....one being in the cold winter weather, we would drive up to teh Gap near Vaucluse - Watson Bay and byo our bottle of wine...jump into some cliff creek and sit there in the hollow and screamed at the loudest hair raising to relieve our exams tension. Also in the winter months we would go and watch Aussie rule footies...

During the summer we would rent bicycles, or tandem bicycles to cycle around the Centinenial Park, or sometimes just lie under the big old trees gazing at nothing!!! In the summer period we would go watch cricket - and it was even more fun to sit on the hills to watch....

More Than Harbour Bridge and Opera House

Sydney has much more than the famous arch bridge and sail looking opera house.

In my years there, the yearn to see more outside Sydney has been extremely fullfilling. Any tourist would wanna go see the bridge, Opera House, walk around Mrs Macquarie chair to see fireworks on new year's eve...go to the Blue Mountains, but I have also enjoyed going to the north, to north coast, if you like you could rent a house boat and cruise along Hawkesbury River and go OSYTER-ing (yum) and perhaps go to the seaside of Terrigal and have your fish and chips and just be a beach bum!! Or go to the Southern Highlands for the rolling hills, sheeps lots and lots of craft shops...and yes yes hand stirred jams, chutneys, all kinds of honey and mustards....

OOOOH - I JUST LOVE MY SYDNEY!!!
