  • We have been to Bangkok many times - this year alone we were there twice. It is only
about 2 hours odd flight from Malaysia where I live.

So far we stayed in two different hotels - one was the Westin Banyan Tree Bangkok (see picture) which is located on an extremely tall buildings. It is a luxury hotel, managed by two very famous hotel chain, Westin and the Banyan Tree groups. The Banyan Tree hotel is extremely famous for the spa packages - and i think this would be the cheapest Banyan Tree hotel in Asia. The location is not as its best for tourist, as the train station (which they cal as Sky train) is about 10-15 minutes walk - not the best if you want to walk at night as it gets a little quiet there. Besides the hotel is located more in the business area rather than tourist.

Another hotel which we stayed was the Marriot Sukhumvit (there is another Marriots by the River), and this is a better location with two Skytrain station to offer. It is also one or two stops away (depending which station to jump on) to several shopping centres in
Sukhumvit. Both the hotels we stayed in are 5 star and above USD100 pernight and comes with an extensive buffet breakfast. The Thai restaurant is excellent and they do a buffet lunch with endless beer.
Just oppositte to Marriots, is a small convenience shop where you can stock up your cokes, chips etc, and there is also a Macdonald which is great.

Another luxury hotel I would consider to stay in is Grand Hyatt Erawan - it is on Sukhumvit hotel, and is connected to Sogo Shopping complex. Each time we go to Bangkok we head for their noddle bar which is at the lower ground, called You and Mee. The prices for noddles there is extremely reasonable about 3-5USD (but please do not compare to the stalls food), but prices of drinks there are the same for noddles. They make this most wonderful curry noddles (crunchy on top when the noddles are not soaked into the soup) in thick coconut milk.

For the same location as the Hyatt there is another hotel called Le Meridien, I believe their prices are cheaper than Hyatt, and the location is extremely ideal for shoppers.
In Sukhumvit you can get on the skytrains, and there is Sogo, Isetan and several more large departmental shops to offer.

  • The hotel resort is a bit off the way from the city, it is the furthest in terms of location along the Chao Phraya river. It is located near the Krungthep Bridge. The best way to get to the hotel besides taxis is the resort's shuttle boat from the Sathorn pier.

Otherwise it is possibly the one and only resort within the Bangkok busy city - where you get lots of palm trees, plenty of orchids etc... a wonderful Mandora spa, lots of restaurants and the fell just make you sometimes need not get too far into the city proper. So many times, I just decided to sit back and realx and enjoy the hotel, take a sit at the pool, and sip some coconut drink, or enjoy a meal at the one too many restaurants, have a massage ----

Unique Qualities: We made bookings via the net - beign a Marriott reward member - and anyway, they mucked up my airport transfer and I ended up taking on VT member Sharrie suggestion to use the airport limo transfer available at the airport - which btw ended up cheaper, and when I arrived at the hotel, they already realised their mistake, so we were upgraded to a better room!!! a suite!!! and for 5 nights

The best part of the hotel, is they have shuttle boat to the sathorn pier, - every 15 minutes which is within minutes walk to Sathorn taksin Skytrain station - and they also have shuttle boat every hour to Oriental Hotel, and Rivercity - both were great way to get around - and very relaxing and calming!!! although some people may find it waste of time - I thought it was relaxing to sit on the boat ride after the heat running around the city with my shopping!!!!

  • Excellent location - albeit a good 10 minutes walk from Chidlom BTS station where also the area has the Central shopping mall. The access to other train station at the back of hotel , close to Four Seasons hotel is guarded but a bit quiet.

At the back of the hotel is Villa kiosk - gives you excellent supplies of snacks, drinks, and cooking staff. Opens 7am -10pm.

There is internet connection in the room. cost a bit much 600 baht ++ per day!!!

Otherwise roomsare excellent - nice sized room and kitchen and fridge, oven, etc

Unique Qualities: The way to go these days are to live in serviced apartments while on travel. you get the comfort of home away. and great - 2 tvs...so i can flick my channels and so can my husband. Also there is so much more room and space, i prefer this to Banyan Tree which we been staying often - mainly becos of its location along Soi Lang Suan which has lots of glittery restaurants - gourmet ones too.

Hi, I will be stopping at BKK for one day. I've re-visited your food tips and will be trying out La Dalat and Lemongrass during my stay. By the way, I am staying at Novotel Lotus at Soi 33? Any comments?
