Malaysia has slaes many times a year. We call them Mega Sales, and it happens about 3 or 4 times a year. Currently in March 2003 we are having sales all over the city in KL. Look out for specials in the newspapers.

To avoid the crowd, avoid the weekends and also lunch time of weekays. And also especially at month end when it is pay day!!!

many many shops along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman: Silk road

  • Name of Shop: many many shops along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman

Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahamn - in short Jalan TAR is now popularly known to many as the SIlk Road....there are one too many shops here selling fabrics...you name it they have it. From raw silk, to coutere fabric, to winter fabric. exquisite lace - Italain, french etc ...they all have it. Some of the prices are real ripped off - so you better bargain hard. But the choice is abundant. I went there in search of fabric with my cousin who was getting married. If you cannot get it in one store you will find it in another. Ask for about 10 pct -30 for the higher end fabric. It turned out her wedding gown would cost much less than it would have been made in Australia...even with the same fabric etc

    Suria KLCC: ARCH Souvenier
  • Tip Rating:
  • Name of Shop: ARCH at Suria KLCC Level 3

The ARCH shop has several outlets; I have seen them in 1 UTAMA in a suburban shopping complex. The first time I shopped at ARCH was at this KLCC store, and I think it is worthwhile for tourist to consider a souvenier or a gift from this store.
Some of the art frames are available in a gift store at the KLIA airport but it costs some 10-20 pct more.

I normally buy it for some of my visiting friends, besides the Royal Selangor.

What To Buy: They sell framed art work. And are made of woodchips, and carved to some local scene or house scene etc. You can buy a small picture of our national kite, the wau, or classical dancers but my favourite with the architecture ones. If you have lived in Malaysia, you will be able to recognise those glorious buildings.

What To Pay: Prices range from a mere 40 ringgit for a 2 1/2 X3 inches to severl thousand ringgit for huge ones. You can get something decent for around RM150.

Mid Valley Megamall: new wing - the Gardens
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Name of Shop: Mid Valley Megamall

October 2007 - I just been to the newly opened Gardens - which is annex of MidValley Megamall. You can be connected via the exit near Liu Li Gu Fang crystal store, or D'lish cafe. Soon they will have a skywalk connection.

IN the lower ground level of Gardens, there are some nice eateries such as Purple Cane Tea house, and also a nice Japanese food store and a nice meat shop Fogal.

There are lots of mid level branded stuff, and also Isetan is anchor tenant.

So many more-ish mouth watering munchies on your menu :~) I'm looking for someplace that does a great dim sum set with plenty of deep fried stuff for kids!
