When walking on any road, make sure you walk facing the traffic so that you can see the oncoming people or bikes, motors etc. At least you can anticipate what is coming.
Also make sure you walk along pavement rather than along the street and have your handbag on the inner side of the road to avoid snatch thieves.

Avoid walking on dark alleys, quiet lanes etc
