Restaurant Name: KAMPACHI
Lots of kiosks for you to look and admire even, and sumptuos food. When you get up to the first floor, the entire ballroom is covered with huge tables and each table is marked with a number. You 'have' to make reservations as this is so so so popular, it is difficult to get a seat without booking esplly if you are coming with big crowd. When you get up- the usher will tell you which table. While waiting you can feast your eyes - on the left is the raw stuff - sashimi (two types served, shake (salmon) and maguro (tuna), sushi of the same fish and non stop making california handroll, and lots of maki (rice rolls) which are really the best here. They have tempura maki and also my favourite it soft shell maki - yum!!! while still at the entrance, there is the dessert- if you like pancake - reserve room for red bean pancake or peanut butter pancake. But they have next kiosk is the mochi - which is rice dough cut into bite size, and they will warm into water and drain and then toss with mixture of peanuts, sesame seed and sugar - a bit like chinese dessert. there is of course green tea ice cream, with red bean paste and the standard flavour. then there are freshly cut fruits - which is a la minute - you point to what you want and then they slice it - it is also good type of local fruits such as sweet pineapples, papaya and watermelon. it was very sweet while i was there. as you walk down the asile on the left is the sukiyaki department. here the ladies with big pots are simmering tender slices of beef in this pots filled with cabbages, glass noddles, shaped carrots, taufo and some greens. she will ask if you want egg with it - i opt not!!! and it is very yummy and tasty. there is a chicken version for non beef eaters. as you stroll down, you will see noddles such as fried udon in sweetish flavour, and some other stuff and also japanese styled potato salad. and far at the back is cold noddles (soba) and also miso soup, and egg custard (cawan mushi). and on the left end of the walkway, you will see fried and bbq stuff. you have the tempura station which has prawns, yam slices, pumpkin slices, lady fingers etc. then there is the furai dept (breadcrumb stlye eaten with bbq sauce) which has fried potato croquet, fish slices and also chicken wings. and next kiosk is the grilled fish heads such as salmon fish as well, as bbq cod fish, salmon fish, squids and also whole mackerels etc. You can venture into the proper restaurant venue and the teppanyaki table is serving some food as well. enjoy this place - best of the Japanese buffet in town. it is almost a la minute - cook before you because it is so popular and there are short queues in each kiosk - and all the staff are very friendly.

Restaurant Name: Shang Palace
Shang Palace will be closed for renovation from Aug 20th 2003 for 2 months
Favorite Dish: For lunch , I particularly enjoy their dim sum (yum cha) selection. They are traditionlly made, not the fusion type which is getting popular in Kuala Lumpur other hotel type Chinese Restaurants. I also enjoy their stuffed vegetables with fish paste, such as stuffed brinjal (aubergine), chillies, capsicum, and also stuffed taufoo, which is then braised in black bean sauce. They also make an excellent Seafood Fried Hor Fun (flat nooddles)

Madam Kwan- this restaurant is an offshot from Sakura in Jalan Imbi. The owner originally opened a hair salon and started offering meals for her clients, decided to open the restaurant Sakura. Sakura has been around town at least 20 years back - it was very famous for the nasi lemak, assam dishes etc. a place to eat local delights and some simple international fare in a cosy environment. Lots of tourist and also locals. Very busy. We went there for a VT meet together with a VT guest, Vlad from San Diego. The picture is from right, Jenniferchin, Dragonhtml and VTguest, Vlad. And of course my dinner - the nasi bojari
Favorite Dish: Nasi Bojari - fragrant rice (coloured as well) with side dishes but served on a huge platter. The condiments is a quarter fried chicken, tender beef rendang, half hard boiled eggs, cucumbers and sambal prawns. The serving is too much for me - but should be OK for guys. Other favourites are Nasi Lemak, and supposedly good chicken rice as well.

Favorite Dish: everything. Value meal for set lunches. Try the Teppan Seafood - it is excellent priced and comes in a set which has prawns, squid, salmon and mixed vege. with steamed rice and miso soup. the sukiyaki beef set for lunch is also very cheaply priced. all the sets are well priced (between 25 to 40 ringgit), and their california hand roll is very good

Nadaman, and to be known as Zippangu from March 2002
Favorite Dish: everything there is so great. for a cheaper fare, go for their set lunches. But really they serve the best sushis in town made by Chef Ah Kit, and their teppanyaki chef Lancelot, makes your Japanese teppan so much more haute cuisine than any teppan chef. It is trully an experience. Update - sorry - no more teppanyaki act show!!! Lancelot is now in the pastry department!!!! acquiring new skill. Anyway, the restaurant serves an interesting buffet lunch - brunch on Saturday and Sundays from 11:30 am and it cost about 75 ringgit per head. To die for is the sushi and sashimi and also soft shell crab maki!!!!

unique experience - relatively authentic shanghainese styled dim sum, altho they do cover the cantonese stuff as well.
Favorite Dish: I had lunch there recently (May 2002) and we had Dim Sum but Shanghainese version. It was really interesting with morsels of dim sum dunked with black vinegar. We ordered Xiao Long Bao, and it was good. We had unique prawn dumpling with spinach in it - different from Cantonese Har Kow and very good. Then we had Fried Cheong Fun which I liked so much with peanut sauce, and we also shared a portion of soup noddles with shredded pork. I love soupy stuff and drank most of the soup and left the noddles for the guys to dig in. There was one dish which looks like a baked pow - the pastry is very good and it has minced meat and vegetable filling - the name of the dish was something like baked royal bridge biscuit'. I thought their spring oion pancake could do more spring onions in it. For dessert we shared one portion of ma lai ko layered with custard with salted egg yolk. ok - UPDATE - we went there again - and i nicked their menu!!! so you get the picture of the menu!!! this time we had the tan tan mee - it is really yummy, comparable to ones in HKong and Shanghai - maybe better!!!

nice view in the evening - lookout to the KLCC park.
Favorite Dish: I love salads - so this is one the better places serving two type of salads better other places. One is their BBQ chicken salad, and also their oriental salad. I also like their rendition of pasta - if you like the chinese dish called Kung po Chicken or prawns (which is chic or prawns cooked with dried chillies and nuts), well they make this with pasta. Pretty good to share and also order a pizza to share as well. Otherwise head off for the marinara pasta - nice and tangy with lots of basil. For pizza - i love mushrooms - so i go for portobello pizza. Dessert - save room for them - great ones here - love the tartuffo which is cookies and cream icecream coated with hard chocolate covering - so rich you must share

Ritz Calrton Li Yen Restaurant very nice ambience, with black marble. accompanied by live traditional Chinese music. excellent service
Favorite Dish: Their Dim Sum selection is good, some traditional, and some fusion. I particularly like their desserts there, such as mango ice, and a traditional Chinese dessert which is some glutionous flour balls stuffed with sesame paste and coated with peanuts.

Restaurant Name: Soong Kee Beef Ball Noddles
This place originally was a non airconditioned eatery but in the last year, it has been nicely airconditioned. You really appreciate the cooler condition as there are loads of big buses that pull up at the edge of the corner shophouse releasing lots of fumes!!! This shop is at old as I am - i remember eating it when I was a kid. opens at 11 am till almost midnight. closes on sundays.
Favorite Dish: Of course the beef ball noddles. You can choose which type of noddles, and I prefer the wantan mee type of noddles, another favourite is a tiny noddle called loy shee fun - translated it sounds like rats tail noddles - but it is nothing to do with it. It comes topped with minced pork and a separate bowl of beef balls in a simple clear broth. Eaten best with a chilli sauce. Small Bowl is RM3.50 and with extra tripe or beef balls add RM1.50 Big Bowl is RM4.50 Just beef balls only is RM6. I have never tasted the tripe - i hate internals - so cannot say much about it = but a small bowl is about RM4.50. Ask for extra mince at a mere 50 sen - i love it.

This is a peranakan (nyonya) or Straits kind of food. In there they serve authentic Straits food which is Malay-Chinese origin. Try out their own concoction of orange frizz which is very refreshing esplly drank while it is still very cold. The interior has lots of local artist and other SE Asian art work and some antique stuff you could buy as well.
Favorite Dish: Of all the things I ate there, the popiah is a must. It is possibly one of the best popiah I have ever eaten. For those who do not know what popiah is, it is actually almost like a large spring roll, but not fried. Something like the Vietnamse spring roll. But the filling is totally different. Here it comes with cooked until tender sweet turnip, and has lots of condiments in it, such as green lettuce, eggs, and best of all is the fried dried shrimps etc. I can eat two of these fat spring rolls.
