Voted No 4 Top Restaurant in KL - Kuala Lumpur
NiNe at Ascot: Voted No 4 Top Restaurant in KL

Interestign place - although set up quite close to the road.

It is opposite to the KLCC Petronas Tower - but sorreee - no view at all~!!!!

The manager told us they like the name NiNe - becos it rhymes with dine, wine and etc.... and funny - there is nine big old tress on the front of the restaurant.

Favorite Dish: We went there for the first time a degustation menu - and the event was sponsored by wine supplier. So happens my cousin is the wine supplie rep and it was a bargain for RM180 ++ for a 6 course degustation. Wine was complimentary by the wine supplier and they were introducing Thomas Hyland which albeit young wine - but was easy drinking. The Penfolds RWT is as close to the much sought after Penfolds Grange!!!!

Food was great - we liked it here becos it is fine food but in a smart casual environement - so you can realx a bit and enjoy....as oppose to my other fav joint Lafite. The best on the menu is the cured duckling - the combination of taste just so robust and mixed - wow!!! my taste bud is so so darn spoilt!!!

BTW, if you want to know which is the tops - it is Lafite at Shangrila, followed by Level 3 at the Marriotts, followed by Cilantro at Micasa ....

Nanxiang Steam Bun: Shanghai Steam Bun - Xioalong pao

October 2007 - this restaurant was new in Kuala Lumpur with branches in The Curve (Ikano Power Cemtre - opp to the Cineplex) and also at Pavillion Kuala Lumpur - the highest floor.

Favorite Dish: This restaurant is a franchise from the 100 year old resto in Yuyuan Gardens in SHanghai. If you are missing their xiao long bao - this is a fairly good place to go to in KL - altho there are many others also relatively good ones like Dragon I at Pavillion Lower ground, and also like SOHO in 1 Utama, or even Shanghai at the Marriotts.

I enjoyed the XO nian gao, and also the misture of steamed xiao bao. Also liked their selection of chinese teas, and the house made tong yuen - with very thin skin and rough sesame filling. Also loved their puff pastry filled with soft cashew nuts.

Shanghai10: Shanghainese laimeen

It is a casual place, serving mainly dimsum and noddles and some desserts.

Favorite Dish: I love laimeen, esplly dan dan mee, which has peanutty soup. It is pretty tasty here - alhto cannot beat those from Diamond HIll in Hong Kong...but i really think it is cheap and cheerful and tasty here. I also enjoyed the fried rice noddles roll - fried chee cheong fun - which is slightly spicy also. My husband likes their laimeen with chicken dumplings, the kids love the fired yam cakes, and all the fried stuff, like fried wanton, fried beancurd skin with cheese and prawn, fried tuna toast!. I love desserts, like dried tong yuen - with sesame paste fillings, and one crispy dessert which has red bean and banana filling (this reminded me of 1221 restaurant in Shanghai).

Howevever their chilled ice desserts were pretty let down

CWZJ Cuisine - Home of Tea Kings: Jalan Kuchai Lama Home cooking

This place is really out in the woob woob but it was a delight to find it. We were passing by this area for sometime, and it is pretty close to the highway. It is a small shack with only couple of tables. The dining area is really small, but well 'chilled' with numerous fans. I think the owner is a Chinese tea freak - you will see all kinds of special Chinese tea brews here, and also lovely traditional tea pots etc.
They serve food from 11am till late but yong tau foo - stuffed vege and beancurd with fish paste is available till 6pm. Otherwise you will find homey Hakka styled cooking

Favorite Dish: Live seafood is excellent - fish comes from tanks, and very well timed cooking. We had a steamed tiger garoupa which was awesome...cost 80 ringgit. It was terribly fresh. Had oyster ball which is meat balls steaded with a dried oyster - 3 ringgit each, and rendang chicken tasted more like sambal chicken, stir fry sweet potato leaves, steamed 3 kinds eggs, fried lala with fermented beancurd. All fed 6 pax with rice, and cool green tea for RM180.

Gerai Makanan Sai Kee: Homey styled cooking in KL Chinatown

It is a bit hard to find. If you are along Jalan Hang Lekir, it is a lane between two shops. Imagine you are facing Tang City (which is a shop with many hawker stalls inside it), it is the other side of the road on the right. There is this shop that sells very golden looking decorative things....In front of that lane, there are stalls selling Bah Kut Teh and Claypot mee...walk a little further inside, and it is suddenly open aired. The cooking bit is covered.

Favorite Dish: Fish paste with soup. They make really spongy fish paste. I love egg plant cooked with belacan (dried shrimp paste which was a bit pungent but awesome) with very very delciious prawn. Steamed 3 type of eggs with mince pork, and also stewed bittergourd with chicken in black bean sauce and a dash or rice wine, and also fried kurau fish with bean curd.

It is yummy if you liked heavy tasting home cooking. Oh yes and their beancurd drink is delicious.

dinner for 4 came up to 60 ringgit, for 8 of us was 150 ringgit.

please go early - around 5-6 pm., otherwise you may have to wait on queue

Fusion Food of French n Japanese - Kuala Lumpur
Cilantro at the Micasa Apartments: Fusion Food of French n Japanese

I love this place....when i was getting married, it was one of my option to choose for the wedding reception...but it lost out from my short list becos of the sitting arrangement. It was hard to fit 100 over guests in this very private restaurant.

The new chef is Japanese..he is young with lots of creativity...and spares no quality in choice of ingredient. He uses lots of truffle, be it truffle oil, truffle sauce etc. even when you are seated you get truffle butter to go with bread...what more can you ask for.
also, uses lots of foie gras in cooking.,..it is repeatedly used with crispy duck or even with Japanese eel for main course. In good restaurant in KL these days, they feature lots of wagyu beef....yum - melt in your mouth.

every thing is so good..i cannot decide. even dessert is a highlight.

if you cannot decide go for the platter. entrees has a symphony platter n you get 5 types...good for sharing. then you can go for mains, so hard to choose and dessert...can go for platter...4 types. you need a big appetite...we always share. i love anything chocolate...and they use top grade Valrhona choc to go with it. .....
