Starving artists! - Hiroshima

Starving artists!

Enjoy a day listening to the young artists.

It was a sunny day and it was nice to see several musicians around the city singing some nice tunes. Often they would sing in Japanese, however you can still admire the harmony. Like many starving artists around the world, youthful kids looking for there big break are all over the city!

Toss them a couple hundred YEN and enjoy the day!

Memorial Tower To the Mobilized Students. Peace Park and Memorial Museum Review

In Hiroshima, 8,387 students were mobilized to work and help in the war effort. Many of these students helped with the removal of many wooden houses in order to prevent fires from destroying large parts of the city. Of these students, 6,097 of them were killed by the atomic bomb. Many paper folded cranes can be seen at this memorial also. In Japan, the paper crane has become a symbol of peace.

Monuments in Peace Park Peace Park and Memorial Museum Review

This monument houses a chest that contains a register of the names of the atomic bomb victims. Every August 5th, the list is updated to include those who have died during the last year from atomic bomb related diseases. Between August 6th 1999 and August 5th 2000, 5,021 people were added to this list bringing the total killed from the bomb to 217,137. The inscription on the front of the stone coffin reads, "Let all the souls here rest in peace; for we shall not repeat the evil."

Gembaku Dome - Hiroshima

Gembaku Dome

The only structure left! Peace Park and Memorial Museum Review

Most people who come to Hiroshima visit this structure. This particular building was near ground zero when the atomic bomb (code named "Little Boy" ) exploded 580 meters over the Shima Hospital after being dropped by the Enola Gay at 8:15 am on August 6, 1945. The A-bomb Dome is the ruins of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Hall. It is to be preserved as an appeal for world peace and as a witness to the horror of nuclear weapons.
