This place reminds me of a salvation Army store/Pier One Imports. It is a warehouse filled with Souvenirs, handicrafts, tshirts balcaps, traditional gifts, cashmere silk and silver, watches, carpets indian funiture and so much more. One of my friends told me about these Pahmina Shawls! They were a great buy! The store is out of the way, so if going by taxi, have him wait. Also not recomended for children due to so many fragle items that could get broken. If shopping in the UAE, this place is a must!

What To Buy: Pahmina Shawls. What is Pashmina ?
Oddly enough, it's a word which doesn't appear in the usual online dictionaries, or even in our Webster's. And yet, if you search for "pashmina" on Yahoo!, you'll find a host of sites offering pashmina shawls and scarves --in fact, pashmina seems to be this year's trendiest fashion fabric. Most of the information we were able to find comes from merchants selling pashmina products, so we had to read between the lines of copy, the alluring color charts, and lovely images for accurate information.
Most vendors claim that the wool in their pashmina is produced by very special Himalayan goats. Cashmere refers to the fine wool from the undercoat of these Kashmir goats -- we get the idea that pashmina is the crème de la crème of cashmere.

In the mountains of Nepal and India, local weavers knead, dye and combine pashmina goat hairs (which are thinner than cashmere) with silk (often in a 70-to-30 or 80-to-20 ratio) to give the material durability and luster.

What To Pay: Some women are buying multiple shawls, with beading, embroidery or London's latest fad: graduated color. Carrie Bradshaw sported one on HBO's "Sex in the City" and women's magazines like Redbook and InStyle have been touting the fabric as a must-have for months. Until recently, pashmina shawls cost upward of $300-$400; now they are available for less than $200.

I paid between 25-45 dollars each!

    Gold Souq: Shopping for Gold
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Name of Shop: Gold Souq

The Gold Souq is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions and it is easy to understand why. In the unlikely event that you cannot find what you are looking for most shops will design jewellery for you and all are happy to mount stones that you have purchased loose. Most jewellery is 24 carat and none is less than 18 carat.

What To Buy: Be sure to haggle vehemently and be prepared to walk away if you cannot get the price you require, there will be another shop just a few doors down offering a similar product. Remember to check the daily gold price in the newspapers.

What To Pay: Barter, Barter , barter!

Karama Souq: Jeans and designer rip offs

  • Name of Shop: Karama Souq

Not technically a souq, this tucked away treasure trove of bargains is housed in what is best described as two modern buildings reminiscent of a 1960s UK shopping centre. This is the place to go for leather goods and fake designer casual wear.

What To Buy: All shops sell similar wares, some of the most popular being ‘Gucci’ handbags and ‘designer’ label jeans

What To Pay: Expect to pay about two thirds less than you would for similar goods in a shopping mall. Leather handbags and wallets are the best bargains. A few outlets now quote ‘fixed prices’ and are best avoided since their neighbours will happily haggle over identical goods. Blue Marine is one of the largest and most popular stores.
