Getting TO/AROUND: For sightseeing that goes beyond the walking distance you are willing to cover there are several good options. The first is the subway. In rush hour, do not be surprised if you don´t manage to get into the graffiti coloured metro, due to the immense amount of people around you that have the same idea. Although it can get extremely crowded (and I can say I am used to crowded metros, cause I travel with them each single day) it is still a very fast and good way to get around.
Make sure you have the exact change in your pocket though for the ticket machines. (in my time there a 75 minute ticket was € 0,77)

Getting TO/AROUND: With the same ticket you use for the metro, you can also make use of the bus. They are less crowded, clean and take you almost anywhere within the city center. You can choose from 238 routes!! And of course: contrary to the metro, while riding the bus you can see the city as well.

    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: If you arrive at Fiumicino airport, the easiest way to get to the center of Rome is by one of the well maintained and comfortable trains. The station is at the airport and you will not have to switch trains if you go to Stazione Termini (the main station within the center of Rome). From there you can take the metro to your final destination.
The train leaves every half hour and will cost € 8,80 for a one way ticket.

Getting TO/AROUND: Allright, now that you´re IN the city at the spot where you want to begin.... just start walking!!!
This is absolutely the best way to get into the heart of Rome. You will walk from one beautiful excavation to the next immense ancient building. Make sure you plan to do the big ones before you start otherwise you will wonder around for ever.

Great information. I disagree with the "con" though. There's never too much to see, just not enough time! :-)
