Mandeville is in southern Louisiana. It is located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The town of Mandeville was incorporated in 1840. It was primarily a retreat for wealthy New Orleanians who spent their summers on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain to avoid the heat of the city and the threat of malaria, which was rampant in New Orleans during summer months. Access from New Orleans was via steamer ferry service across the lake. These days Mandeville is home to many people who want to take advantage of all New Orleans has to offer, but don't want to live in the "big city". Twenty-four miles south across the lake lies New Orleans!
Mandeville is a quiet community and a pleasant place to make a home. My parents now live there, so I go to Mandeville fairly often. The town doesn't have much to do, but it is pretty and it has a great view of the lake!
