"Visiting Skjervøy" Skjervøy by maritagnes

Skjervøy Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 13 photos

This is the farther North I have ever been in my own country. I visited quite a few years ago to visit the birth place of a good friend, and spent a lovely week-end there with her and her family.
Skjervøy is the name of both the municipality - which consists of 6 islands - and the community centre itself with 2400 people.

The name origins from Old Norse "skerfr" = naked mountain and "øy" = island.

Placing Skjervøy on the map of Troms.

Skjervøy is not far from the border to Finnmark, the ultimate Northern county of Norway. You can actually look all the way over the Lopphavet (sea) and over to Finnmark from Skjervøy.
