When i visit Pakistan i am always based in Jhelum, this city runs near the Jhelum river .in the 1960's many of the locals went abroad to earn money as did my father he left Jhelum as a 16 year iold to work in the Manchester cotton mills and as result he settled there but home will always be Jhelum even though i was born and bread in the UK i still have a strong connection to my home town .My father chose my wife of 21 years from the area also . |
|  | Shandar chowk this area shown on a very miserable morning is the centre of the shopping area to the right are the many money changers who change currency from all over the world into local rupees.Just sitting there you will here Pakistani males with American,Irish,british even welsh accents along with german its very strange to see a local man speaking welsh with his children then speak urdu with a welsh accent. |
|  | Transport in Jhelum In Pakistan people travel on all sorts of conveyances the most dangerous i would say is the tonga they cause many accidents,best to avoid,also the auto ruchshaws based on old lambrettas are now rare taken over by the chinese QuingQui (pronounced chinchee) which is hlf a front end of a motorcyle strapped to a 3 wheel seat for passengers also dangerouse |
