A big Oasis at Taklamakan Desert Turpan is a pleasant small town with not so many highrise buildings. It is the ideal location to explore the ruins of old cities along the silkroad, the famous Thousand Buddha Grottoes of Beziklik or just to relax under the shadow of the grape trellises.
Even though it was very hot, when I visited in June 2007, I liked to wander around and enjoyed to have a beer at John's Cafe.
I have been in Turpan already in 1992. Unlike other cities in China, Turpan seems to remain a quiet place, almost sleeping in the heat most of the time. I like the wide roads with not much traffic, the grape trellises, the friendly people. I was overwhelmed by the thought, that I was lucky enough to see this place a second time in my life. |
| | Being on a group tour As I have been in Turpan in 1992 on my own now (2007) I enjoyed the explanations of an expert tourguide, the comforts of a nice hotel and of a good bus taking me everywhere. And unlike in public transport it was so easy now to say "please stop, I want to take a foto!" |
