I was invited Jordan by the Jordan Tourist Board, they wanted to show us how save Jordan for tourists is. So I was there on a very short "fam-trip" together with about 25 travel agents from all over Germany.
We spent three days/four nights in Jordan and saw Jerash, Death Sea and Petra. We stayed at very nice hotels and had our lunch and dinners at very good restaurants.
I have been to Jordan already in 1982 - 20 years ago. Many things have changed in Jordan. And I think, they changed to the better. But when I now saw my pics from 1982 I got the impression, at least in the ancient cities like Gerasa or Petra nothing really changed. There are more columns standung upright now. But the places itselves are beautiful as ever!
Jordan is a very old country with the remains of famous and great cultures, like Nabatean, Roman, Greek, ancient Bycantine churches and more. Today it is mainly a Muslim country, but nevertheless, Muslims of different sects and Christian people are living peacefully together.
We were in Jordan only a very short time. My friend Rosie, a fellow travel agent from Hannover, always complained about me, that I got lost everywhere, because I was talking to everybody. But that is, what I love most while travelling: meeting people. In Jerash I met a couple from Taiwan, with whom I could speak Chinese, at Mt Nebo I met people from the embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Tel Aviv, with whom I also spoke Chinese. The best was, that in the Moevenpick-Hotel I met some Jordan women, who fortunately spoke English, and I spoke to our busdriver, who was a Muslim, and I had a good contact to our tourguide, who was a Christian. And there was this old Beduine Man in Petra. I remember all these conversations as the highlights of this short trip, because they were carried by tolerance and friendship between people.
