Asia Transportation

Transportation: Trains

Getting TO/AROUND: Trains in China: a good opportunity to speak to local people. I normally use the hardsleeper in China. Hardsleeper is not very comfortable but sleeping is possible. There are also softsleeper waggons, which are very comfortable.

In India trains are normally very, very crowded.

The best, fastes and most comfortable train in Asia you'll find in Japan: Shinkanzen

I also used the train from Tashkent to Bukhara (Uzbekistan). That was quite an experience!

Getting TO/AROUND: Everywhere it is possible to hire a bike. It is a great feeling to drive around at the same speed as the local people. You can admire the landscape and stop whereever you want.

I recommend to hire a bike mainly in China and Thailand. I did it in India, too - but the traffic in India is absolutely crazy.
