Paradise?? | Buddha painted with the colors of Holi |
Kathmandu - city of my dreams. After backpacking about 1 year in Asia I reached Kathmandu, the fairytale city of the 60s and 70s. Friends of mine had been there, driving with a car from Germany to Nepal in 1975.
But paradise it isn't! A big polluted city surrounded by the high mountains of the Himalayas. Poverty everywhere. But where I did not see that in India I found this in Nepal: poor people obviuosly happy. It seemed, that Buddhists and Hindus live peacefully together. Everybody celebrating the Holi-Festival in March 1992, when I visited.
Today the country is marked by some kind of civil war. Maoist and Royalists fighting.
So sad! |
