Red Hook -- Mid Hudson River Valley

by Ekahau - last update: Aug 19, 2006

Red Hook

Fisher Center for Performing Arts.
Red Hook -- the Dutch sailors called the area Red Peninsula “Hoek” as the Hudson Riverbanks banks were red with berries. This is a really charming area of the midhudson near this VTers home and has the very lovely Villages of Red Hook and Tivoli in it as well as Bard College, Fisher Center for Performing Arts. Also it has some beautiful old guild age Mansions.

The Mid Hudson Valley

Most VTers would think of New York as NYC and Manhattan Island but just to the north is the gorgeous Hudson River Valley. My European Vter friends compare the Hudson with the Rhine with great palisades, fabulous mansions and lots of ship traffic The Hudson Valley is full of American History, Native Americans, Revolutionary War, Gilded age Mansions from the robber barons like Vanderbilt.

Stunning photos of this beautiful part of NY State! I've looked down on it while flying in from Montreal but never made it on the ground yet! Meetings north in Albany and went across the Tappan Zee bridge to the south, but missed the in-between!

Now, I know about Red Hook. Never heard of it before. Only know about Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Lake Placid, Lake George, Albany, NYC.... and now Red Hook. Thanks!

You are so right about people's views of new york city and new york. I wish more folks ventured beyond the 5 buroughs.
