    • Favorite Thing: Well know in navigation History of those who travel the Indian Ocean BASSAS DA INDIA remained a major obstacle for these navigators. The island was discovered by a Portuguese, GASPERO GONSUALES, and is positioned on an old chart of Italian geographer CORONELLI was “BAIXO DA JUDIA”, in English “ Jewish Bench. Then, the island was charted BAYOS DA INDIA in 1511, BAXOS Of the INDIA on Henri III charts in 1542, SYRTES INDIE in 1588), LOW JEWISH 1710, and finally, BASSAS DA INDIA (OWEN in 1825. It was made part of France by French law on October 31, 1897.
