Red tile roof of Luberon - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Red tile roof of Luberon

COLOURS... [II]

Today a "classic" shot from picturesque Roussillon, in the Luberon.

The little village quite unique and extremely photogenic because of the surrounding ochre cliffs. The colored earth has been used for ages for pottery and paint pigments. Today most of the buildings in the village are made from colored local stones, or painted in ochre colors, or are covered with those pastel earth layers.
And try October for a visit to Roussillon, it's a lot more peaceful than in the summer...

L'Abbaye de Senanque - [Own picture] - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

L'Abbaye de Senanque - [Own picture]

L'Abbaye de Senanque

.

Français:
L'Abbaye Notre-Dame-de-Sénanque a été fondée au XIIème siècle.
Aux pieds des bâtiments poussent des champs de
lavande , qui fleurissent au début de l'été et seront ramassés en juillet/août.

English:
The Cistercian Abbey Notre-Dame-de-Sénanque was founded in the 12th century.
Stretching out from the Abbey buildings is a valley of
lavandel fields, which are in full flower and fragrance during the summer, and harvested July & August.

N.B. As my English is rather 'poor' I have added some info from Website Provence:
The Cistercian order at the abbey flourished until the 16th century, getting wealthier and wealthier, in contradiction to the Benedictine rule of poverty. In 1544, the Vaudois heretics revolted and their first target was Sénanque. The monks were hanged and many of the buildings were destroyed.
