    Getting TO/AROUND: Most folks get there by car. There is a convenient, if little-used Amtrak station, appropriately enough on Railroad Avenue. Ashland has some historical value as it is the boyhood home of American patriot Patrick Henry. It is also a university town (Randolph Macon College) and a good wayside stop for interstate travels. Exit 92-B in the included photo is where a truck stop plus numerous hotels and restaurants are located.

    Getting TO/AROUND: Ashland Amtrak station is an unstaffed station with limited crippled access. It doubles as the Ashland-Hanover Visitor's Centre. However, for those who travel by rail to see King's Dominion theme park, Ashland is the closest station. Ironically, the Ashland station has more architectural character than the larger stations in Richmond, Raleigh and Charlotte.

     O'Bank's-outstanding review. I love these small towns with historic architecture, (and BBQ ...pork is the only way!) is right up my alley! Your restaurant and shopping tips were outstanding.
