I got to go to Puerto Rico quite by accident. Due to an overbooking the previous summer (1990) on the way to Madrid, I earned a free ticket to the U.S. and its territories. See my Madrid page for details. I had (and still have) a university friend who lives in San Juan and I spent a week in the tropical Puerto Rico sun in what is the dead of winter in a lot of the United States. I got the worst sunburn in my life at Las Croabas in northeastern Puerto Rico, about an hours' drive from San Juan. In fact, it was so far to the northeast that we could pick up radio stations from the Virgin Islands. |
