New Zealand was the third of four stops on the Pacific Island tour of late June through mid-July, 1991. It was a close call on whether to put these tips on a New Zealand at-large page or here in Rotorua. Because we only saw a small part of New Zealand, an at-large page would not be credible and the vast preponderence of tips came from the Rotorua area. Of all the stops, I was looking forward to seeing my pen friend (then of 6 years) Jonathan. We carry on writing to this day. I met him 3 times- once here and twice at the Auckland International Airport. Rotorua highlights the Maori (native New Zealander, for those from Roxboro) culture. Our hotel hosted a "hangi", a Maori feast cooked over geothermal steam. You've heard the song, "I left my heart in San Francisco." Well, I left my hide in Rotorua. Click on the tips down yonder to find out how I managed to do that and find out other things about Rotorua. |
