I live in Newcastle, and I have always lived here! I love the place because in half an hour you can be at the tourist beaches of Shields or Whitley Bay, or the unspoilt beauty of the Northumberland coast, Druridge Bay, Craster etc. Half an hour in the opposite direction has you in the wild moorland of the Cheviots or Durham, or the border region where Scotland meets England. There is so much variety here and there is something to suit any traveller, except maybe a cast iron guarentee of hot sun.... So whether you want to walk the Pennine Way, tour the castles, both ruined and whole, shop in the city or the Metrocentre (15mins walk from me), go drinking down the Bigg Market or Quayside, worship the fleeting sun at the beach, or simply do all of them (and you could since everything is easily accessible) Newcastle is a region of outstanding beauty and teeming with flavour and amazing things to do and see, oh and the people are brilliant too, friendly and very humerous.
UPDATE: As of April 2003:
I have moved to Hampshire due to my job. All I can say about living in Hampshire is that the weather is better but it's so flat here, where are the hills? It's also too far to the coast, and if you do manage to get there through all the traffic, it's all commercialised. But there's a lot more countryside here than I expected. |
